Checklist for selecting external HSEQ specialists

A strong profile must fit both technically and operationally. Engagement model, sector experience, communication and role understanding matter.

Starting point

Under time pressure, profiles are often compared only by title and availability. In safety-critical work, formal qualifications alone do not show project experience, communication or interface management.

Define the requirement

Clarify task, industry, phase, location, shift model, language, reporting line and authority. Also define the engagement model: service delivery, independent project work and permanent recruitment are distinct routes.

Review evidence

Check identity, certificates, training, sector evidence and credible project history. Functions defined by law or technical rules require the specific evidence applicable to the task.

Structured interview

Use realistic scenarios: escalation of a critical deviation, prioritisation of actions, conflicting requirements, information needed before mobilisation and the boundary between advice, control and line responsibility.

Selection checklist

Separate mandatory and desirable criteria. Record evidence, availability, communication, engagement conditions and open points before forwarding or commissioning a profile.

Frequently asked questions

Is an up-to-date CV enough?

No. Relevant qualifications and experience should be supported by appropriate evidence and a technical discussion.

When should the client interview take place?

After a documented preselection, so the meeting can focus on project fit rather than basic eligibility.

Technical foundations

The specific operational and project situation must always be assessed.
